In the Chair with Glam Girl, Kam Thomas Throckmorton

    March 14, 2016

At Bob Steele, we're fortunate to have some of the most diversely talented and fascinating Atlantans sit in our chairs every six weeks. One of those clients is Kam Thomas Throckmorton, founder and owner of Glam Kam, a personal fashion styling service that was recently named "Atlanta's Best Personal Stylist" by Best Self Atlanta.

Kam's eye for style was apparent from the time she was a young girl playing in her mother's fabulous garbs, but her expertise for dressing anyone in a way that compliments their unique shape, came from years of practicing the trade. Today, Glam Kam styles professionals, socialites and stay-at-home moms alike, helping them present the most fabulous, authentic and put-together version of themselves to the world. And what's more beautiful than that?

BSS: How did you become a client at Bob Steele Salon?

KTT: I actually won a certificate for hair services at Bob Steele as a door prize at a Date Night Magazine event eight years ago. I wanted to make sure I made the most of my prize, so I called Atlanta Post Riverside and asked them to recommend a stylist. That's when I was connected with Rachel Baklini and she's been my hair soul mate ever since!

BSS: How do you relate fashion styling to the hairstyling?

KTT: I always tell my clients that putting your best image forward is about taking a comprehensive approach to style. Beauty and fashion styling go hand-in-hand and are equally important in the bigger picture of one's image. I could style a client's wardrobe to the nines but if their hair is in need of TLC, it will distract from all the good we've done.

BSS: What's one piece of advice you can give to people about creating and sticking with a style that is all their own?

KTT: It's important to remain realistic about energy and time we're able and willing to commit to a certain look. Rachel does a wonderful job of keeping my feet on the ground with this principle. I may bring in a picture of a fabulous, platinum blonde and she'll say "That's gorgeous, but are prepared to be in my chair at least once a month?" With the demands of my work and family, the reality is "no". Any style that is truly yours will fit both your taste and your lifestyle.
