Pastels, Stripes, and Wedges: A few of Spring's Favorite Things!

February 21st, 2012 • Posted by Kelly Davis • Permalink

Spring is officially less than a month away! I think it's safe to say everyone is ready for color, sandals, and SUN! After doing some trend research, I spotted three trends that will be hot, hot, hot this spring! Get pretty with pastel blue, pink, yellow, and orange for your staples and accessories. Diane von Furstenberg, Jason Wu, and Rebecca Minkoff have all created pieces with the birthday-cake inspired fabrics. Nautical looks aren't going anywhere this spring. The season staple is found in collections by Tommy Hilfiger, Z Spoke by Zac Posen, and Stuart Weitzman. Stripes, stars, navy blues, and anchor motifs are all you need to pull off the look. In the footwear department, seventies style platform wedges are HUGE.. literally! Look for the styles from Chinese Laundry, Mulberry, Michael Kors, and Hugo Boss (pictured above). Pair them with your favorite high-waisted, wide-leg jeans for the perfect look.

Sleek is Chic!

Spring runways were filled with sleek hairstyles. The easy breezy look is perfect for day or night. At Carolina Herrera Spring 2012, Orlando Pita used Moroccan Oil light to achieve a shiny, frizz-free texture for slick ponytails. Guido Palau perfected shine at Lanvin Spring 2012 in Paris with Redken Shine Flash and Redken Forceful 23. The Redken Creative Consultant created tough, urban looks to compliment the season's ultra-feminine styles. The idea behind this look is to maximize shine for a truly angelic look!

Spring into Fashion!

January 27th, 2012 • Posted by Kelly Davis • Permalink

Ok, so it's not quite Spring yet.. but this weather isn't too shabby for January. Might as well start stocking your closet for the new season, right? This Spring is all about neutral and romantic pieces, and bold accessories. My favorite trend is African tribal inspired prints and materials on shoes, handbags, and jewelry. The intricate beading, weaving, and carvings will definitely spice up any wardrobe. The looks can be found in Donna Karen's leather sandals with wooden heels, Michael Kors' antique brass cuffs, and Mulberry's calfskin bag. (Photo source: wwd.com) A cork wedge or a snazzy beaded bag will look perfect with your favorite pair of jeans. Pair a neutral military style or trench coat with your jeans and tribal accessories to transition from cooler to warmer weather. Another hot trend is romantic eyelet details on dresses and tops. This sweet yet sophisticated style will be perfect for weekend shopping, cook-outs (and that summer beach trip you're planning!) when the weather heats up. Go for a bold wedge sandal and jewelry to add a touch of color. Spring will be here before you know it (about 7 weeks).. so get ready!!

Terribly Terrific Toffee.

December 22nd, 2011 • Posted by Kelly Davis • Permalink

Terribly terrific toffee: a terribly delicious and easy treat that's perfect for the holidays. I'm always looking for a tasty baked good to give to friends as gifts or keep for myself... and trust me, you'll want to save a little of this for yourself! This recipe is so simple that I feel sure anyone can successfully make it. The salty and sweet combination is just right to satisfy any cravings. All you need is 1 cup unsalted butter (no margarine), 1 cup of brown sugar, 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips, and 40 saltine crackers. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and and then get started! Line a jelly roll pan or cookie sheet with foil and spray with a non-stick spray. Lay a flat layer of crackers out on the foil. Melt the sugar and butter together until a boil is reached. Reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 5-6 minutes or until mixture is thickened and sugar is completely dissolved. Pour the mixture over the crackers and spread evenly over the crackers. Bake for 5-8 minutes, or until the toffee begins to bubble. Let the crackers sit for 3-5 minutes after removing from the oven. Sprinkle on the chocolate chips, let them soften and melt, and then spread them into an even layer. Feel free to add nuts, or whatever else suits your needs at this point. Let cool, or refrigerate until hardened, and then break into pieces the size of your choice. The last, and arguably most important step.. ENJOY!

Holiday Happenings Around Atlanta!

December 13th, 2011 • Posted by Kelly Davis • Permalink

Looking for some fun holiday activities to do this weekend? There are so many things going on around Atlanta to entertain the whole family. In Marietta, Life University is hosting their 22nd annual Lights of Life. For only $5 per car ($10 for van and $20 for bus), you can drive through the campus and enjoy the beautiful arrangement of holiday lights! The event is open every night through December 31st. Another popular light sighting is Lake Lanier's Magical Night of Lights. In their 19th year, Lake Lanier Islands Resorts really provides a great experience with over 7 miles of lights and decorations! Both adults and kids will love the illuminated scenery through Candy Cane Lane and Icicle Tunnel, and characters like Santa's elves, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Medieval Times Jousting Knights. They also have a "Holiday Village", where you can roast marshmallows and other holiday treats at the bonfire, go on a pony ride, get a thrill on carnival rides, do a little holiday shopping, and visit with Santa! They're open through January 1st, so make time to check this out. It will definitely be worth it! If you're a little more on the adventurous side, Snow Mountain is the place for you! Since we don't typically get too much snow (well.. we never get any of the fun stuff!), you can go to Stone Mountain park and have an experience like no other. Slide down the 400' tubing hill, start a snow ball fight in the snow play area (4 different zones), warm up at the SnoDeck, and when you're finished don't forget to stop by SnoFire point for roasted marshmallows and S'MORES! There is a height requirement for the tubing and play areas, so be aware of that. If you don't want to get hit by a snowball, check out the Stone Mountain Christmas festival. Through January 1st, you can gaze at over 2 million lights and watch over a dozen performances at Atlanta's best Christmas celebration. These events are seasonal favorites.. don't miss out!
